The Davao City government rolled out today the “Libreng Sakay” for people who are required to work daily but are experiencing difficulty in finding available public transportation due to the suspension of public transport.

The roll-out of Libreng Sakay will also address issues of paying more or double fare demanded by some public transportation drivers faced by workers daily during this time when the city government implements the community quarantine to slow down the spread of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) transmission in the city.

Dionisio Abude, the Head of the City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO), said the individuals offered for the free ride are the workers in establishments exempted from the closure.

Workers only need to present their company ID or certification issued by company upon boarding the bus.

A total of five (5) buses will be deployed to serve Toril, Calinan, Mandug, Cabantian, and Lasang routes, or one (1) bus each route.

The buses leave at 6:00 a.m from the District Hall in Toril, Gaisano Grand Mall in Calinan, Rose Bakeshop in Mandug Proper, NCCC Mall in Cabantian, and Lasang Footbridge.

Going home, Toril bus will leave from Magallanes Elementary School at the back of City Hall, Calinan bus will leave from Unicity at San Pedro St., Lasang bus will leave from Rizal Park, Cabantian bus will leave from San Pedro Cathedral, while the Mandug bus will leave from Pichon St. at the back of Sangguniang Panlungsod Building.

Mayor Inday Sara Duterte said that if there is a need to augment the buses the workers can inform the CTTMO.

“Kung kinahanglan ta mag-augment with other public transportation, magpasulti lang sila so that we can prepare the money para mag-augment with other modes of public transportation (If we still need to augment the public transportation just inform CTTMO so that we can prepare the money needed in augmenting other modes of public transportation),” Mayor Sara said.
