The series of consultations with jeepney drivers and operators helped in addressing issues on the implementation of the Davao City High Priority Bus System (HPBS) and the social packages offered to the affected sector.
Lawyer Tristan Dwight Domingo, the Assistant City Administrator for Administration, said the consultations with the drivers and operators are crucial to the successful implementation of the Public Transport Modernization Program which includes the bus system and the Social Compensation Packages.
Among the issues were on disqualifying those from getting social compensations if they sell their franchises while the HPBS is being implemented. Selling a franchise is also against the law.
Domingo further called on the affected drivers and operators to submit their application for social compensation packages at the HPBS Office at the 2nd Floor of Pasalubong Center along Palma Gil street.
Modernizing the transport system in the city is aimed at providing quality and efficient public transportation to the Dabawenyos and to help address the city’s traffic problems.
Under the modernization program, the city government targets to set up assigned bus stops for the proposed 29 routes all over the city.
In its initial phase, an estimated 134 buses will be deployed for Catalunan Grande (24), Toril (82) and the CP Garcia Highway route (10).
Also during the initial phase, the LTFRB will give temporary franchises to displaced operators to ply route in areas that lack public transportation.
It was also assured that appropriate public advisories will be disseminated for the commuters and for the operators and drivers that will be affected when social assistance will be granted and changes are ready to be made.
