The delivery of food and non-food items resumed after the Christmas season, particularly in Sulop town in Davao del Sur.
Nine (9) barangays of Sulop received a total of 2,095 food packs; 1,800 rolls of tarpaulin; 10,246 liters of potable water; 8,380 cans of Meals Ready to Eat (MRE); 180 pieces of casserole, 90 pieces of mosquito nets; 9 sacks of assorted clothes; and, 180 pieces of blankets.
Sulop town Incident Commander Engineer Crispin R. Lovitos thanked Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte and the people of Davao for extending help to their town.
âIn behalf of the Local Government Unit of Sulop⊠among ipadangat diha kaninyo among pagpasalamat, dako kaayong pagpasalamat, mainitong pagpasalamat sa inyong gihimong mga inisyatibo nga pagtan-aw sa atong mga kaigsuonan nga naapektuhan sa linog. Ug tungod niini, amo pud ipaabot diha kaninyo kining mabungahong bag-ong tuig (In behalf of the Local Government Unit of Sulop, we would like to extend our gratitude for looking out for our brothers and sisters who are affected by the earthquake. We also greet you for a fruitful New Year),â he said.
Lovitos said Sulop did not hold their annual Christmas celebration, âKasadya sa Paskoâ to empathize with the victims who have not recovered from the incident.
Barangay McKinley, Sulop resident Enriquitta Villejo, 62, was emotional as she remembered her painful experience during the earthquake and celebrating Christmas inside their tents.
âKaron pa gyud ko [kasinati] ug unsa ang kalisod⊠nagtent-tent lang ta, lisod kaayo (This is my first time to experience this hardship. Itâs so difficult to just settle in tents),â she lamented.
She added that her asthma was triggered because of the discomfort of staying in tents.
Her only wish is to get help in fixing their home so they could finally settle there again. Nonetheless, they are very thankful for the help given them, she said.
âDaghang salamat Mayor Sara Duterte, daghan salamat sa imong gihatag sa tibuok Barangay McKinley nga ang tanan mga tawo makatilaw sa imong hinabang (Thank you so much to Mayor Sara Duterte for giving donations to all the residents of Barangay McKinley),â she said.
Solongvale village resident Samuel Cababat was also very grateful to the Davao City relief team for visiting their area and giving assistance despite the distance. CIO
