Aside from sending a team to help in the rescue operations to quake-hit Padada town, the Davao City government has also extended cash of P300,000 as relief aid.

Edito Mandi, the Officer-in-Charge of the City Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO), said the cash assistance is timely as the Padada town was most affected by the strong tremor on Sunday.

“We only gave assistance to Padada because we have yet to receive the resolution of other towns declaring state of calamity,” he said.

Mandi said it is still to be decided if the city will also send relief goods to Padada.

“This financial assistance will be delivered immediately to the municipality so that the LGU can use it for their needs,” he said.

The cash assistance was approved by the City Council during its special session on Wednesday.

Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang, the chairperson of the Committee on Finance, Ways and Means, said the money will come from the city government’s Quick Response Fund (QRF), which is 30 percent of the Disaster Funds.

“We received the Resolution of the municipality of Padada declaring their town under state of calamity. It is the only thing to do, that we need to extend financial assistance to them,” he said.

Dayanghirang said that declaring a calamity-hit area under a state of calamity is a requirement of the Commission on Audit before a local government unit can help other cities or municipalities in times of disaster.

“It has been the tradition of the city to extend assistance to those who are in need. Since Padada is greatly affected by the recent quake, we are extending assistance to them,” he said.

Padada was badly affected by the recent quake with over 500 damaged houses. CIO
