Davao City Vice Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte urged Dabawenyos to take inspiration from the heroic deeds of Andres Bonifacio who fought for the country’s freedom enjoyed by Filipinos of today.
Vice Mayor Baste, who led the commemoration of the 156th birth anniversary of Bonifacio on Saturday, said the people should not forget what Bonifacio did so Filipinos would gain the freedom they deserved.
Bonifacio is a revolutionary leader and is known as the Father of the Philippine Revolution.
He said the sacrifices of the heroes, not just Bonifacio’s, should always be in the mind of the people.
“We should give importance to our heroes, they sacrificed a lot of things and I think this should be embodied by the people and I hope the outcome of what they did (freedom) will continue,” he said.
VM Baste said people should also fight for their right.
“If you are on the right path, you should not be afraid to fight for your rights,” he said.
On the other hand, Reservist 2nd Lieutenant Gianmatteo Guidicelli who joined VM Baste during the commemoration of Bonifacio’s birth also highlighted the sacrifices of modern-day heroes like the Filipino soldiers.
“After I joined the military, I gained so much respect for the AFP and PNP because these people dedicated lives. Sacrificed their lives away from their families to serve their country,” he said.
Guidecelli said he would like to show to the youth how important the military is to the country, especially in bringing peace.
The commemoration of Bonifacio Day was attended by government officials and workers. CIO
