Davao City comes to the aid of the towns in Luzon hit by Typhoon Quiel with a P3.5 million in cash assistance.
The money which comes from the cityâs Quick Response Fund (QRF), is allocated for the provinces of Apayao and Cagayan and the municipalities of Allacapan, Abulug, Camanlaniugan, Sta. Praxedes, and Claveria in Cagayan.
Each province will receive P2 million while each municipality will receive P300,000.
Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) head Alfredo Baloran said the provinces and municipalities can spend the money where it is needed the most to cope with the damages caused by the typhoon.
âThis has been the tradition of the city to assist other areas who were hit by different calamities. As long as they will declare under the state of calamity, we will extend assistance to them,â he said.
Baloran, however, assured that the city government has enough funds under the QRF should there is a need to assist Dabawenyos. QRF is 30 percent of the 5 percent Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund.
âWe have enough budget from our QRF that we can use if ever that we will be needing it. The city will have enough money on its own for any calamity,â he said.
In the past weeks, the city has been extending assistance to neighboring towns affected by the series of earthquakes and aftershocks.
So far, the city government extended the total assistance of P7.2 million to quake-hit areas in Davao del Sur and North Cotabato. CIO
