The number of child abuse complaints received by the Kean Gabriel hotline has significantly went down over the past months and officials say this was due to the successful advocacy campaign of the city government of Davao.

Davao City Social Services and Development Office (CSSDO) head Maria Luisa Bermudo said that through the efforts of the city government, such as coordination with the barangays, the city government has been winning against child abuse.

In 2018, the Kean Gabriel hotline received 456 calls. But from January to October this year, the figure was only 94.

“When we started, there was a huge number of calls that we received, but on our third year this year, it decreased,” Bermudo said.
Bermudo pointed out the efforts of the barangays to establish various programs that aim to protect children from abuses.

“This declining complaints can be attributed to our intensified campaign for the protection of children, especially the involvement of the barangays,” she said.

The Kean Gabriel hotline was the brainchild of Mayor Sara Duterte and was named after the 3-year-old boy who died in the hands of his stepfather. CIO
