In the aftermath of three strong quakes and aftershocks that hit Davao City and several areas in Mindanao, Mayor Inday Sara Duterte called on Dabawenyos to stay calm and allayed fears of a tsunami.
âThere are no tsunami warnings in Davao City,â said Mayor Sara, who now oversees the search and rescue operation at the Ecoland 4000 condominium, which collapsed following Thursday morningâs 6.5 magnitude earthquake.
Sara, along with Vice Mayor Sebastian âBasteâ Duterte and first district Representative Paolo Duterte, went to Ecoland 4000 after reports that the residential unit collapsed.
Sara immediately ordered the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO), Public Safety and Security Command Center (PSSCC), Central 911, and other government agencies to respond and ensure the safety of the people.
The Kusina ng Bayan of the City Social Services and Development Office (CSSDO) was also sent to serve hot meals and water to responders.
Sara assured that the city search and rescue team are on top of the situation to save, if there are, residents trapped under the rubble.
Nine persons were injured because of the quake. The victims were immediately treated by Central 911 medics.
âThe Central 911 checked the 3rd floor until rooftop and there are no trapped residents. They will check the 2nd until the ground floor to check if there are trapped people inside,â the mayor said.
The mayor also immediately ordered the suspension of classes in all private and public schools from Kindergarten to post-graduate studies from October 31 to Monday, November 4.
âThe suspension of classes is until Monday, November 4, because Friday is a holiday and the work will go back on Monday, so we do not expect building employees and school administrators to properly assess their buildings immediately,â she said.
Early on following the 6.6 magnitude quake on Tuesday, the City Engineerâs Office (CEO) immediately issued an order top condemn the Ecoland 4000 residences. However, reports said residents stayed on. CIO
