Davao City once again comes to the aid of another local government unit (LGU) after the City Council approved the release of P300,000 cash assistance to Kalibo, Aklan.
The money, which comes from the 5 percent Calamity Fund of the city, was handed over to Kalibo LGU by the Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (DRRMO) head Alfredo Baloran on Thursday, October 17.
Kalibo, Aklan is still coping from the big fire that struck its public market last month.
This is not the first time that Davao City gives aid to LGUs. Last August, the city government also extended P1 million cash assistance to Ilocos Norte after the province was hit by typhoon Ineng.
Baloran said this has become a norm of Davao City to help LGUs provide needs of their affected constituents after a disaster.
“This has been the practice of the city– helping other cities, municipalities, and provinces struck by different calamities,” he said.
Baloran said the P300,000 cash assistance was given directly to the local government.
“Since Kalibo, Aklan was declared under state of calamity because of the big fire, the Davao City government, through Mayor Inday Sara Duterte, decided to extend aid to them through our calamity funds,” he said.
The fire that struck at dawn of September 15 razed more than 270 stores in Kalibo’s main public market with P35 million estimated damage. CIO
