The state-run University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) wants to build its Annex in Malabog, Paquibato District to bring higher education nearer to Dabawenyos in far-flung areas.

Mayor Inday Sara Duterte, who announced USeP’s plan during her State of the City Address (SOCA), gave her full support to the plan because the project will open opportunities for students residing in Paquibato – one of the farthest districts of the city.

“USeP is also looking at opening an Annex in Barangay Malabog Paquibato District to encourage more residents in the area to go to college and to provide a more economical option for students who reside in Paquibato but currently study downtown”, Mayor Sara said.

Sara further affirmed her support to the project during her visit to the National High School Extension Campus of Panaga NHS in Tapak, Paquibato for a handover of a school building. She bared that the project is under discussion by the district’s barangay officials.

“Di’ na kinahanglan muadto ug layo kay ang uban muingon nga, ‘o gusto man mi mu-eskwela, gusto man mi mahuman ug college pero pag-abot didto mubayad pa mi og dorm, mubayad pa mi og pang adlaw-adlaw namo, layo kaayo ang lugar, layo sa pamilya (You don’t need to go far. Some say – we want to study, we want to finish college, but going to the city means paying for dorm, everyday expenses, and away from our families),” she said.

Sara said the city government is just waiting for the project documents for the construction to be processed. CIO
