The Davao City Council on Tuesday approved a resolution requesting President Rodrigo Duterte to exempt Davao City from the coverage of martial law in Mindanao.
The resolution, authored by Councilor Mabel Acosta, was in support of an earlier call by Mayor Inday Sara Duterte to exempt the city from martial law.
Mayor Sara’s call is also backed by the police and security forces, who had provided data showing the city’s improved peace and order condition. Vice Mayor Sebastian Duterte also fully supports the mayor’s call.
The Police Regional Office (PRO) 11, the Eastern Mindanao Command and the 10th Infantry Division, have certified that the city can be exempted from the coverage of martial law.
An exemption from the coverage of martial law will bolster the city’s promotion as a tourism and investment destination.
It may be recalled that the declaration of martial law in 2017 took a toll in the city’s tourism and investment campaign.
The resolution will be sent to the Office of the President with the recommendations of security forces, as attachments. CIO
