The newly-installed baggage X-ray machine and walk-through metal detector have cut the waiting time of passenger to go through the security check procedure at the Lasang checkpoint, according to the head of Task Force Davao.

Colonel Consolito Yecla, the commander of the Task Force Davao, said the new metal detector and baggage X-ray machine do not only cut waiting time but also ensure that terrorists and other armed groups could not do their thing in the city.

“Last week, we have established the walk-through metal detector and the X-ray baggage machine at the Lasang detachment. It is very effective in ensuring the safety of the city,” he said.

The installation of the two equipment also reduced the inspection time per bus from an average of seven minutes to just three to four minutes. This prevents traffic build up in Lasang.

Yecla said the use of the two equipment also provided convenience to the public.

“We don’t need to ask the passengers to open their baggage anymore. We can just run it through the scanner and we can see if there are contra-bands inside,” he said.

Last month, the city government also set up the same equipment in the Task Force checkpoint in Sirawan. Each of the machines is worth P1.8 million.

The TFD aims to put at least one scanner machine in the three established checkpoint areas in the city. The other checkpoint is located in Calinan area. CIO
