Mayor Inday Sara Duterte rated the just-concluded 2nd Alveo Ironman 70.3 to ânear perfectâ.
âFrom the feedback of our partner, Sunrise Events, that this is a better competition compared to last yearâs. And, it is difficult to level it up for the next year,â Mayor Sara said when sought to assess the international triathlon event hosted by Davao City.
Mayor Sara attributed the success to the support and cooperation of the Dabawenyos, the security forces who made sure that everyone was safe, and the other Local Government Units â Panabo City, Tagum and Carmen, who collaborated with Davao City in the sports event.
With this yearâs overwhelming success, Mayor Sara is already looking forward to next yearâs Ironman event which will also be hosted by the city.
She said the city government listed the things that need further improvement.
âWe hope to increase our tourist arrival through this event and hope that they spend their money here. The important thing is that they leave their money here because in effect, it strengthens our economy,â she said.
The Ironman event drew over 2,000 participants from 38 countries including three celebrities.
Dabawenyos also gave visitors a warm reception during Sundayâs event.
Markus Rolli from Germany was declared the new champion after finishing the race in just 3 hours and 49 minutes.
Craig Alexander landed in second place followed by Tim Van Berkel, Timothy James Reed and Sam Betten. CIO
