Mayor Inday Sara Duterte has ordered an intensified campaign against drunk drivers, saying they were mostly responsible for traffic mishaps in Davao City.

Mayor Inday said she has tasked the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) to roam around the city and apprehend violators of the Anti-Drunk Driving law.

“I already told the DCPO to coordinate with the LTO (Land Transportation Office) in the implementation of the anti-drunk driving law because we have too many accidents related to drunk driving last year,” she said. “Those who are assigned in the implementation of the law will roam around the city, especially during the wee hours to apprehend violators.”

She noted that the city will fully support the needs of the DCPO in implementing the law. Recently, 12 motorcycles to be used in running after drunk drivers were turned over to the police.

The DCPO also has 16 breath analyzers that can be used to determine the alcohol level of individuals apprehended under the law.

“Last week, the LTO trained our personnel on how to use the breath analyzer. In just a span of one week, we have apprehended not less than 50 violators all over the city,” DCPO director, Senior Superintendent Alexander Tagum, said. CIO
