The city government of Davao, together with the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc.(DCCCII), is pushing for a direct flight between Davao City and Japan.
Lemuel Ortonio, head of the Davao City Investment and Promotion Center (DCIPC), said that talks are now ongoing with an airline company to push through with the direct flight concept.
“The City Government, together with the DCCCII, are now in talks with an airline company. We understand that this airline company already planned to put up a Japan to Davao direct flight before, but it was not pushed through,” Ortonio said, without giving any reason.
He said there had been series of meetings with his Japanese counterpart, who also shared the same wish.
Ortonio pointed out that aside from Japanese tourists, there are also several potential investors exploring Davao City.
“This will be a gateway for the investors to explore the city and eventually invest here,” he said.
“There are already a few Japanese investors, who look at the potential of Davao City in the agriculture and tourism aspects, but the scope can still be widened if we will push through with the Davao to Japan direct flight,” Ortonio added. CIO
