The City Government of Davao extended financial assistance to the victims of the December fire in Matina.
The distribution of the assistance was done on Wednesday, January 16.
Maria Luisa Bermudo, City Social Services and Development Office Chief, said that the city gave a total of P491,000 to the victims of the fire.
The fire happened on December 29 last year and displaced a total of 50 families and 38 individuals.
“The affected families received P10,000, while individual boarders received P2,000 each,” Bermudo said.
Bermudo said that the help given to the affected residents came from the city’s Crisis Intervention Fund.
“This is our way of expressing to the people that the government is here to help them at this time of crisis, most especially that it happened days before the New Year’s celebration,” she added.
Initially, the city government distributed cash assistance amounting to P95,000 on December 30, a day after the fire incident.
The cash distribution was led by Mayor Sara Duterte, who also gave food packs and media noche packs to the affected residents.
An estimated P2.7 million was damaged by the fire that razed at least 30 houses.
The Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP) Davao revealed that the fire started at the second floor of the house of one Mia Flor Parais. CIO
