Two completers of the City Cooperative and Development Office-Cooperative Livelihood and Training Center’s ( CCDO-CLTC) Bread and Pastry Livelihood Skills Training won the Davao-leg of URC Flourish Pilipinas 2023: Flour Division Bida sa Masa Contest conducted on November 10, 2023

Charmaine Kate Garcia Stanton and Roda Carag will compete in the Battle of the Champion on Dec 6-7 at Baker John Academy in Quezon City.

The “Flourish Pilipinas 2023: Bida sa Masa” was organized by Universal Robina Corporation, in partnership with the CCDO. The competition’s three “phases” were hurdled by the winners. Phase 1 started in August, Phase 2 in September, and Phase 3 and finals took place this month.

During the contest, the Bread and Pastry Livelihood Skills completers presented their product and the business proposals for their products, which became their output. URC provided training for the business proposal-making.

Stanton, in an interview with Madayaw, said that the training provided by the CCDO and URC helped her a lot.

“Sa skills dako kaayo siya nga development sa akoa because of the training provided by the CCDO and also the training nga gihatag pud sa URC sa amoa and all of those are actually free. For us nga mga housewife, sa mga pareha namo nga wala’y extra income dako kaayo’g tabang kay it is another way for us to generate income for our household. (In terms of skills, there is really a huge development for me because of the training provided by the CCDO and the training given by the URC for us– all of those are actually for free. For housewives like us who have no extra income, this is a huge help because it is another way to generate income for our household),” Stanton said.

CCDO Cooperative Specialist II Maria Edna Haspe, in an interview with Madayaw Dabaw, said that this is the first year that URC collaborated with the LGU.

Their office looked for the participants for the contest. All of the 18 participants came out of the Bread and Pastry Livelihood Skills Training given for free.

Haspe said that they are happy with the partnership as it serves a good purpose.

“Maipakita natin na ang Davao City pwedeng maging competitive in terms sa bread and pastry, hopefully, may mananalo sa atin (Through this, we can show that Davao City can also be competitive in terms of bread and pastry. Hopefully we could win),” Haspe said.

Haspe said that the doors of the CCDO-CLTC are still open to Dabawenyos who are interested in learning skills for free.

“Hindi naman lahat cooperative member basta you are willing to attend sa atoang mga livelihood trainings (Not all are cooperative members, as long as you are willing to attend our livelihood training),” Haspe said.

She said that aside from bread and pastry, their office also conducts free training for Basic Fruit and Vegetables Processing, Basic Meat Processing, Basic Candle Making, Basic Homecare Products Preparation, Basic Perfume Making, Basic Chocolate (Tableya) Processing. Basic Salted Eggs and Balut Making, Basic Mushroom Propagation, and Basic Fish Processing.
