In celebration of the 31st National Children’s Month, the City Government of Davao – through the Special Office for Children’s Concerns (SOCC) – has prepared month-long activities for children and their families.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Healthy, Nourished, Sheltered: Ensuring the Right to Life for All”.
During the launching of the event on Monday, SOCC Head Ms. Consorcia B. Ronquillo announced that there are various activities for children and their families under the Survival, Protection, Development, and Participation Rights.
Part of the activities lined up during the kick-off of the event was a motorcade, followed by a caravan held at the Rizal Park.
The SOCC-DCCPC Serbisyo Caravan para sa Pamilya at Kabataan is a three-series caravan with the first one happening on Monday, and the second being on November 8 at the Buhangin Gym; while the third caravan would be on November 9 at Toril Proper Gym.
The SOCC invited various local government agencies and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to the caravan to offer their services. The office also invited children from different barangays to come and join in the caravan.
“So invited namo ang tanan nga mga kabataan kasi giannouce namo ni sa atoang Barangay Council for Protection of Children that they should bring children for at least 10 sectoral child representatives diri sa Rizal Park sa atoang Serbisyo Caravan (We invite the children through an announcement made to the Barangay Council for Protection of Children asking them to bring at least 10 sectoral child representatives in Rizal Park for the Serbisyo Caravan),” Ronquillo said.
Ronquillo also mentioned that on November 24–25, there will be a Citywide Children’s Congress at the World Palace Hotel wherein 182 child representatives will be coming from the 182 barangays as well as members from the LGU and other stakeholders to discuss issues faced by children as well as the actions done by designated offices to address the problems raised.
Ronquillo emphasized the importance of educating the children on their rights and on how and where they could seek help.
The SOCC encourages the public to support the 31st National Children’s Month.
“Importante gyud nga matagaan og pagtagad atoang kabataan para makabalo sila sa ilahang katungod labi na karon no sa mga nagkalain-lain nga mga issues nga naraise sa atoang kabataan, kinahanglan aware sila ana ug asa sila mudangop (We must educate the children to inform them of their rights especially now with the different issues raised by the youth sector, they need to be aware on where they could seek help),” she said.
