The City Government of Davao and the Municipality of Sta. Cruz firmed up a partnership to host Ironman 70.3 Davao in August 2024, during the media launch last October 25 at the Matina Enclaves, Davao City.
For three years now, Davao City has been hosting the Ironman 70.3. In its fourth year, the event will take on a new route featuring the newly inaugurated Davao City Coastal Road. The city is also partnering with the Municipality of Sta. Cruz for the 90-kilometer bike course of the event.
Princess Galura, Regional Director of the IRONMAN Group Philippines, said that Davao City is a strong location for IRONMAN given its strategic location in the region, as well as the presence of a fully functional and international airport that can accommodate bigger aircraft.
The city also has a very supportive, extremely, capable and experienced local government and management team, according to Galura.
Davao City Mayor Sebastian âBasteâ Duterte expressed his gratitude to Mayor Jose Nelson âTataâ Sala for accepting the cityâs invitation for a partnership.
âSwerte kaayo ta nga na-smooth tanan and nisugot si Mayor (Sala) para dili pud ta magtuyok tuyok lang diri, so para ma-promote pud nato ang unsa ka nindot ang tibuok Davao Region. Mao man na ang usa ka point pud sa Ironman (We are very lucky that things ran smoothly and Mayor Sala agreed. This way we wonât just be exploring one place, but also to be able to promote how exquisite the whole of Davao Region is, which is one of the objectives of the Ironman),â Mayor Baste said.
Meanwhile, Mayor Sala also expressed his gratitude for Davao Cityâs partnership invitation as, according to him, it was a great honor and privilege for their municipality to be a part of Ironman 2024.
âHindi namin hihindian ang pagkakataon na maging bahagi ng prestihiyosong kompetisyong ito. Siguradong magdadala ng positibong kalakalan at kaunlaran sa turismo sa aming bayan lalo na sa aming probinsya (We wonât decline the opportunity to be a part of this prestigious race. This will boost the businesses and tourism in our municipality, especially in our province),â Mayor Sala stated.
The IRONMAN 70.3 Davao will take place on August 11, 2024. Galura stated that they have around 1,500 participants expected in the event.
There will also be a new race central and race course; a new location for the expo; new event partners; a new logo for the IRONKIDS; a new title sponsor; and a new concept for the fun run.
