The Davao City Central 911, now the Local Emergency Communications and Response Division of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), will be celebrating its 21st anniversary on Wednesday, September 27.

Central 911 continues to provide Dabawenyos with a free emergency response system, medical emergency care, search and rescue service, and fire suppression response.

Established in 1997, the Central 911 began as a street lighting project and Geographic Information System of the local government and the Davao Light and Power Company. The project aimed to improve the existing lighting facilities in the city, and by extension, address the growing crime rate at the time.

Since its inception, the institution has added the following operational units and services: Emergency Calls Answering Point and Dispatch (ECAPD), Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Urban Search and Rescue (USAR), and Fire Auxiliary Services (FAS).

“Dugay-dugay na gyud ang serbisyo sa Central 911 diri sa Davao and serbisyo lang kini nga libre (The Central 911 has been providing these services for a while now, and these services are for free),” said CDRRMO Operations Assistant Ezzra James Fernandez during the At Your Service program of the Davao City Disaster Radio on Tuesday.

In celebration of its 21st year, Fernandez said the department, as it always had in the previous years, will honor all 911 personnel who died while carrying their duties.

“Simple lang ang selebrasyon sa Central 911. We conduct a mass or service didto sa among opisina because we would like to remember those mga personahe namo nga nawala gyud pud during service (The celebration of the Central 911 is simple. We will hold a mass in our office because we would like to remember our colleagues who passed away during service),” Fernandez said.

Emergency response personnel who rendered extensive years of service will also be recognized during the short program. CIO
