The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) on Wednesday started its three-day (September 13-15) Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Course for Public Sector at the Ritz Hotel.
Through the training, the CDRRMO aims to impart vital knowledge, skills, and attitude required in public employees in order for them to aid in the implementation of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) disciplines in their respective offices.
âAng importante ani na training is to give an orientation to the participants on how they are going to manage in times of a disaster, especially kung naa sila sa ilahang mga offices (The important part of the training is to give an orientation to the participants on how they are going to manage in times of a disaster, especially if they are in their offices),â CDRRMO Head Alfredo Baloran said in an interview with the City Information Office on Thursday.
âWith these trainings, hopefully these participants will become part of the disaster action team of their respective offices,â he added.
Over 50 individuals representing 22 offices from the local government unit are participating in the training course.
Baloran said the participants are expected to take a more active role in the DRRM culture of their workplace. They are also encouraged to share what they have learned from the training to their co-workers.
Speakers from Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and the Department of Health (DOH) will be giving lectures on hydromet hazards, earthquake and volcanic hazards, rain-induced landslide and subsidence, climate change, and basic first aid.
Technical knowledge of DRRM will also be imparted by the CDRRMO by providing lectures on how to organize disaster control groups and the use of an incident command system in the workplace. An introductory lecture on the Philippine DRRM System and the cityâs Public Service Continuity Plan are also included in the course.
The training will end with an evacuation drill simulation to gauge the participantsâ reception to the course. CIO
