For the third time since 2019, the Sindac Anib Performing Ensemble from Bislig, Surigao del Sur brought home the Php 1 million cash prize for the Open Category of the Indak-Indak sa Kadayawan 2023.

Meanwhile, the Sining Sayon Dawet Cultural Ensemble of the Davao City National High School, a previous winner, also did a strong comeback as the winner of the 2023 Davao School-Based Category and also brought home the Php 1 million prize in the said category.

The winning teams awed the crowd and judges with their lively, colorful performances.

The Sindac Anib dancers, which bested the 12 other contingents, depicted a tribe living by the riverside in Bislig. This flourishing tribe that cherishes the colors of abundance was tested by a calamity, but the diverse tribes helped them bounce back. In celebration, the tribe danced, honoring and celebrating nature’s plentiful and harmonious lives.

The remaining top winners in the open category are the Tribu Maganahay of the Matiao National High School Special Program in the Arts from Mati City, Davao Oriental, which bagged the second place; the Landan National High School Performing Arts Group from Polomolok South Cotabato in the third place; the Banayan Performing Arts, Municipality of Banaybanay from Davao Oriental bagged the fourth place; and the Agusan del Sur Artists’ Guild from the Province of Agusan del Sur, which bagged the fifth place.

The Sining Sayon Dawet Cultural Ensemble also bested the six contingents with its depiction of “Duwaya” or Moro polygamy. The dance tells the tale of Datu Panutiban who traveled to various places and meets his three wives – each from one of the Moro Tribes: Tausug, Maguindanao, and Maranao. The Datu falls in love with another dancer from the Kagan tribe. He seeks permission to marry leading to a festive wedding in Davao City, resembling that of other Bangsamoro tribes.
