Malacañang has declared August 18, 2023, as a special non-working holiday in Davao City.

Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin, by the authority of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., signed Proclamation No. 307 on August 2, 2023, to mark the city’s celebration of the Indigenous Peoples Day with the 38th Kadayawan Festival.

“It is but fitting and proper that the people of the City of Davao be given full opportunity to participate in the occasion and enjoy the celebration,” the delaration reads.

Meanwhile, the 17 official events of the 38th Kadayawan Festival are all set, featuring new events and revived events not present in the previous year.

The celebration will kick off on August 10 with the Pag-Abli Sa Kadayawan at Magsaysay Park’s Bantawan Amphitheatre.

Agong ug Kulintangan sa Kadayawan 2023, an indigenous musical ensemble competition open to all Bangsamoro and Indigenous People communities, is a new Kadayawan event. The event is set on August 11, 2023.

Having a comeback from a long hiatus – Habi Kadayawan, a design contest for local fashion enthusiasts, will have its awarding on August 12 and public exhibition August 1-31 at Abreeza Mall.

Another event coming back for the festival is the Tabuan sa Kadayawan at Rizal Park, which will run from August 10-13.

Musical performances of the 11 tribes will also be witnessed through the Bantawan Cultural celebration starting August 14 up to August 16 at the Magsaysay Park Bantawan Amphitheatre.

Much-awaited main events such as Dula Kadayawan, Hiyas ng Kadayawan, Indak-Indak sa Kadayawan, and Pamulak sa Kadayawan are slated on August 17, 19 and 20.

Nearing the end of the festivities, Kasikas sa Kadayawan, a cultural variety show featuring a talented line-up of culturally inclined local artists and performers, is set on August 18 at San Pedro Square.

To cap off the week-long celebration, the Konsierto sa Kadayawan – a celebratory culmination concert featuring an array of local musical artists and bands – is set on August 20.
