A total of 497 learners graduate from traditional Madrasah schools and were presented during the 11th Madrasah Presentation of Graduates held last Saturday at Almendras Gym.

Madrasah Comprehensive Development and Promotion Unit Executive Director Abdulrahman G. Caderao, in an interview
with the City Information Office on Saturday, the event marked the comeback of the traditional centralized graduation rites, which
was previously halted due to the pandemic.

The graduates presented are composed of Kindergarten, Kinder 2, Elementary, Pre-high school and secondary education students.

“When you say traditional Madrasah this is different from the Arabic Language and Islamic Value Education (ALIVE) program of DepEd. The ALIVE program of DepEd, doon Arabic Language and Islamic Values whereas yung mga rest of the subjects na may kinalaman sa culture and tradition ng mga Muslims have been taught, like for example, we have jurisprudence, how to pray, how to clean ourselves, even divorce–it is taught there
in our traditional Madrasah,” Caderao said.

He also said that the MCDU, while halting the ceremony in the previous years due to health restrictions, did not stop bring learning materials house-to-house to students at the time.

Caderao also added that the MCDU does not yet have a secondary-level program but graduates present during the ceremony completed their high school program through the initiative of local ulama or scholars of the Madrasah Centers in the city.

“Pinagsikapan nilang ma-create ang program na ito for high school kahit wala pa namang concrete budget doon. Ang purpose natin is para makita ng City Government na kahit voluntary nag start na yung iba sa pagset up, sinali natin yung high school. (They worked hard to create this program for high school even if there is no concrete budget for that yet. Our purpose is to show the city government that even if voluntary, some have already started to set up and included high school),” he said.

Caderao said that the MPDU is now eyeing a venture into the opening of other levels, and also aims to have enhancement training with its educators. CIO
