City councilors on Friday underwent a Gender Sensitivity Training led by the Integrated Gender and Development Division.
During the training, the councilors received inputs on Basic Gender and Development (GAD) concepts and legal mandates on GAD.
The legislators also underwent a workshop after the lecture.
Davao City Vice Mayor Atty. J Melchor Quitain Jr. said that the legislative branch is very grateful to have joined the seminar.
“We are very grateful that the legislators are given this chance to join a seminar like this and exclusive ni para sa mga konsehal para sa amoa diri sa Sanggunian (it is exclusive for the councilors and all of us here at the Sanggunian),” he said.
Quitain said that with the seminar they expect to be aware of gender-related issues.
“We expect that as legislators, we’ll be aware of what the issues are, what are the policies that need to be done if any, resolutions and ordinances that need to be enacted for gender and development. This is what we want to learn from this seminar, so we can act accordingly,” Quitain said.
Davao City has already instituted the Women’s Code and Anti-Discrimination Ordinance, which also supports GAD.
Quitain said that it is important for them as legislators to come up with gender-sensitive legislation. CIO
