A total of 33 students from barangay Dumoy were able to receive their certificate of completion for ECCD under the Parent Teaching Other Parents (PTOP) program of the City Social Welfare and Development Office.

About 30 parents who taught the children also received a certificate of participation during the program held at Barangay Dumoy Function Hall.

CSWDO ECCD Technical Staff Elena Gabaton, in an interview with the City Information Office on Wednesday, said that Parents Teaching Other Parents is one of the home-based modalities for ECCD, which is created to provide early childhood education in communities that do not have or are far from daycare centers.

Gabaton said that through this modality, parents receive training from their CSWDO staff on age-appropriate learning methods and they become recipients of approved learning kits for daily learning activities. These activities are the same as the ones done in daycare centers.

“Atoa nga gi-apply ang panultihon nga ang parents ang unang magtutudlo sa mga kabataan mo ragyud na ang pinaka-prinsipyo (This program is governed by the principle that parents are first teachers in the community,” she said, adding that they aim to reach more communities to implement this program.

Areas with established PTOP are Dumoy, Toril; Cawayan, Calinan District; Barangay -8A, Poblacion District.

The PTOP is also a program accredited by the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the certificate of completion obtained by students under this program can be presented to DepEd schools and private schools for enrolment in kindergarten.

The CSWDO is poised to add more parent-teachers and even now prioritizing the training for PTOP for the Badjau Community in Barangay 76-A

Interested parents who want to join PTOP may go to the barangay and express their interest. CIO
