The City Environment and Natural Resources confirmed that the second biggest city-owned park next to People’s Park will open within the month.

Parks and Playground Division Head of CENRO- Engr. Juancho Dagasohan, during the I-Speak media forum on Thursday, June 1, 2023, said that the 1.2-hectare park located at the back of the Davao City National High School will open this month.

“Meron tayong about to open bago lang natapos, the Dona Vicenta Park, located at the back of the Davao City National High School nga i-open nato this June (We are about to open a recently finished park, the Doña Vicenta Park, located at the back of the Davao City National High School which we will open this June),” Dagasohan said. The park will be open 24/7, similar to the other open parks in the city.

Dagasohan added that more parks are in the pipeline, especially outside of the city center.

“Ang parks man gud ginagamit gyud na siya sa LGU, required gyud na siya for recreation sa mga tao ug lulinghayaw (The parks are used by the LGU for recreation and enjoyment),” Dagasohan said, adding that the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) is looking for lots outside the downtown area, especially in the second and third districts.

With the opening of Doña Vicenta Park, the city will have 22 operational parks. There are actually 26 public parks but the four are still under renovation.

He said that the city targets to have 34 parks in 2026. As the population increases more parks will be needed in the future.

All of the parks in Davao are monitored by security personnel and are currently maintained by the 298 personnel of the CENRO Parks and Playgrounds Division. CIO
