The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board XI heightened the conduct of apprehensions of erring drivers who overcharge passengers.
Mirazah Arraz, the Admin Officer of LTFRB XI bared during the I-Speak media forum Thursday, May 11, 2023 that their office is now employing means to apprehend those who will not observe proper fare rates.
âAmong enforcement team religiously naga monitor, in fact, ang among team naga schedule mi ug ginatawag namo nga decoy. Naga-act sila as commuters para lang gyud masilip kining drivers nga dili musulod sa saktong regular fare rate ( Our enforcement team religiously monitors, in fact our team they have a schedule to act as a decoy. They will act as commuters to check on drivers who are not following the exact fare rate),â she said.
Arraz said that a total of 65 drivers were apprehended by LTFRB for overcharging, trip cutting, non-wearing of uniforms, and other violations. The majority of these apprehensions are done in Davao.
She also said that most complaints of overcharging come from the Toril and Calinan routes.
She urged the public to take pictures of vehicle plate numbers and PUV IDs of the erring drivers.
According to the DOTR Joint Admin Order No. 2014-01 those who overcharge may face the penalty of Php 5,000 for the first offense, Php 10,000 and impounding of the unit for 30 days for the second offense, and Php 15,000 and cancellation of the Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC) where the unit is authorized for the third offense.
So far, Arraz said that most of the drivers they were able to apprehend already faced the first and second offenses.
