The City Health Office (CHO) on Tuesday concluded its three-day orientation for all barangay officials on the ongoing national vaccination campaign against measles, Rubella and Polio.
Under the national campaign of the DOH dubbed âMeasles-Rubella and Oral Polio Vaccine Supplemental Immunization Activityâ (MR-OPV SIA) 2023, the CHO is targeting the inoculation of 189,779 children (0-59 months) against Polio and 161,000 children (9 months to 59 months) against Measles and Rubella. To reach these numbers, the CHO has coordinated with barangay functionaries in the city.
âKani nga event na gihimo namo karon kay orientation ni siya sa mga atong mga punong barangays (This event is an orientation of our barangay captains),â CHO Technical Division head Dr. Julinda Acosta said.
âNaghatag mi og orientation regarding sa MR or Measles-Rubella and oral Polio supplemental immunization activity (We gave an orientation regarding MR or Measles-Rubella and oral Polio supplemental immunization activity),â Acosta added.
Acosta said barangay leaders play a vital role in ensuring the success of the campaign as they will be the ones to provide transportation and essential provisions to the frontliners who will be conducting the inoculation activity on the ground. They are also responsible for providing logistical support to health workers.
The barangay leaders, Acosta added, will be in charge of disseminating information and education campaign materials in their respective community. This includes the distribution of informational and promotional pamphlets and the dissemination of notices and immunization schedule.
Acosta said that during the orientation, the cityâs barangay officials showed their support by sharing their plans and strategies to immunize as many children as possible.
The MR-OPV SIA is slated to start on May 1 and will run until May 31. CIO
